The legend of the Neon is a tale of struggle, heartache, and love. The story begins in the ages of darkness before the sun and the moon and the stars blessed their heavenly light upon our world. We shall skip this part for now to save time and manuscript, but suffice to say that the Neon was born from the stardust of distance galaxies and rode the intergalactic currents to alight rather unexpectedly on Earth. This was in the year of 1991. Neon fell into the Pacific Ocean and was picked up by the most unlikely of creatures, a human by the name of Todd. Todd was sailing back to port after a week of unsuccessful fishing (Todd was often told to quit fishing and become a number cruncher, but Todd always answered that he was only good at crunching granola bars while riding the waves in search of fish). Todd never found any fish. He did however, find the Neon. Skipping ahead again, the Neon alighted upon the sunny shores of California and began an immersion course in all things human. Neon was especially taken by a strange, shiny, twisty device called the saxophone. To Neon’s ears (if you could call them that), the sounds of the saxophone recalled distance memories of his home in Alpha Minor and the feel of riding the intergalactic currents to distant worlds. The Neon played the saxophone long and loud into the heavens in the hope of attracting some Deons from Alpha Minor to be Neon’s friends. After several years of sending saxophone calls from California, Neon moved to New York City and tried to reach his fellow Deons from there. Still, no answer. Frustrated, Neon traveled the world playing the saxophone (from South Korea, to Canada, Japan, and Peru) but still heard no response from the citizens of Alpha Minor. Undeterred, Neon tooted his horn almost by accident while passing through Rotterdam on one of Todd’s fishing vessels (Todd was then the manager of the most successful unsuccessful fishing company in Europe) and, suddenly, three Deons fell from the stars into the sparkling canals of Delfshaven. Elated, Neon gave the Deons a guitar, a bass, and a drum set, and they set about attempting to make the music of Alpha Minor in the strange world of Earth.
